In my 25 years of experience of treating patients, those who
came in for such complaints as acid reflux, indigestion and the like, the vast
majority of them responded extremely well with chiropractic care.
Many times patients come to their chiropractor for lower
back, upper back and neck problems and are pleasantly surprised when their acid
To me, it makes sense, because the nerves in the mid back
innervate your stomach and upper GI tract. Nerves from the lower back control
the lower intestine and the entire digestion system has to work in harmony to
function properly. So, if your problem is in the areas where the nerves are
getting irritated/compressed/inflamed, then that part of the body is not going
to function correctly.
In fact, while I’m treating my patients, if I notice a
change in the misalignment of their spine, I’ll ask them (I’ll bet you I
ask this of at least 50% of them during the day.):
“Are you having problems with your digestion?” or
“Has your digestion been a little off recently?”
They look up at me, absolutely stunned and reply, “How did
you know that Dr. Dave?!”
Chiropractic is very unique in that a chiropractor looks to
treat the cause of the problem/disease, not treat the symptoms. If your
symptoms are caused from a subluxation (misalignment of vertebra causing
pressure on the nerves) and we can correct it, you will most likely have great
results with chiropractic care.
The first place to start to see if chiropractic care can
help you with your indigestion and acid reflux problem is to begin with an
evaluation. This evaluation will include a thorough history, chiropractic
examination, spinal check-up, and x-rays (if necessary).
I would love the opportunity to see if I can help you. Just
call my office at 386-246-0739 and ask for Alaine, she’ll help find a time that
is convenient for you.
Probiotics are beneficial microfloras that play a critical role in maintaining good health.
Healthy human intestines contain billions of both good and potentially harmful microorganisms. The good bacteria in the intestines are considered to be an integral part of normal immune system support.
Probiotics are important because they can synthesize certain vitamins and short-chain fatty acids to support a healthy intestinal lining and bolster immunity. When your intestinal lining is occupied by healthy beneficial flora, it deprives unwelcome microorganisms of both space and nutrients.
Healthy people usually have a ratio of approximately 85% good to 15% potentially harmful organisms in the intestinal tract. In some cases, even those who appear to be well might have an unfavorable ratio as a result of daily exposure to environmental toxins and a modern lifestyle. For example, taking antibiotics or drinking chlorinated water may change the optimal microbial balance essential for good health.
